Chaffles! (Egg & Cheese Waffles)

Chaffles (Egg & Cheese Waffles)

Chaffles:

Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs

  • 3/4 cup grated meltable cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, etc.)

  • A pinch of salt

Directions: Preheat your waffle maker according to its instructions. In a bowl, beat the eggs until they’ve slightly lightened in color. Add the cheese and salt to the eggs and mix until well combined.

Once the waffle maker is ready, lightly brush it or grease it with a high-quality cooking oil or spray. Fill with the egg and cheese mixture according to the shape and size of your waffle maker.

Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the chaffle is golden brown and crispy. Cooking time may vary depending on your waffle maker. Carefully remove the chaffle from the waffle maker and let it cool for a minute or two to become firmer. Repeat the process with the remaining egg and cheese mixture if needed.

Variations: The beauty of chaffles, as with many egg dishes, is you can mix-and-match ingredients to make them taste new each time. Try these simple variations and you’ll be a chaffle addict in no time:

  1. The Savory Chaffle: Add savory seasonings like finely diced onions or garlic or dried herbs and spices to the basic mixture. You can also mix in cooked bacon bits or or diced ham for extra flavor.

  2. The Chaffle Sandwich: If you don’t want to add anything into your mix, you can add ANYTHING on top (or in between, as it may be). Make a chaffle sandwich by sliding any of your favorite classic sandwich fillings in between two chaffles. Think ham and cheese with a high-quality mayo or roast beef and swiss with Dijon mustard!

  3. The Pizza Chaffle: Mix a few Italian herbs -  like basil and oregano - and mozzarella cheese into your mix. When your chaffles are almost done cooking, sprinkle a little extra mozzarella and pepperoni or salami on top and cook another minute until golden and bubbly.
